Jungle Disk Workgroup and My Secure Backup version 3.16 upgrade problem

Several people have reported issues that interrupted their installation of the subject software. The developer is aware of this and is taking steps to address it. In the mean time, they have provided the following steps. In most cases, InterConnected Technologies should implement these steps, rather than a client attempting them alone.

For all clients who use either Jungle Disk or My Secure Backup: If down by the clock you fail to see the icon that indicates that either Jungle Disk or My Secure Backup (depending on which offering you are using) is running, please contact us immediately at support@interconnected.com).

  1. Check to make sure that Jungle Disk is currently uninstalled according to Windows. If it shows up in the list of programs that can be uninstalled, choose to uninstall it now. Manually remove the driver used by Jungle Disk. This can be found under C:\Windows\System32\drivers and is named "cbfs3.sys". Only Jungle Disk uses this driver, so it's safe to delete.
  2. Clean up the Application Data folder used by Jungle Disk. Go to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\MySecureBackup\ and remove everything but "jungledisk-settings.xml". (This file contains the settings from your previous installation - if you don't want to retain those settings, you can remove this file as well.)
  3. Reboot your computer. This is needed in order to completely un-load that driver you deleted earlier.
  4. Once your computer has been rebooted, make sure to disable your antivirus temporarily. We have found that most often, when an installation problem occurs, it is because antivirus is blocking the installation. If you're not sure how to temporarily disable your antivirus, please let us know what you're using and we can help you find out.
  5. Make sure to download a fresh copy of the installer (instead of trying to reinstall from an installer you downloaded before). It's available here: https://www.jungledisk.com/downloads/personal/desktop/windows/Default.aspx
  6. While the antivirus is still disabled, run the installer. After installing, you may be asked to reboot again. If you are asked to reboot, please do so right away (this will prevent Windows or antivirus from rolling back the installation).

Exchange monthly scheduled maintenance - 2011

This is an important scheduled downtime notice for customers using our Exchange hosting services.

Our Exchange provider performs preventive, proactive management of the servers we use beginning at 9pm MT on one Friday each month through 5am MT on the subsequent Saturday. During this maintenance window, the servers will be taken offline intermittently. You may lose connectivity for some or all of the maintenance window, depending upon which part of the system is being maintained. This maintenance work will help make the servers more secure by installing the latest software patches and other upgrades to help the system run better. Each maintenance windows is scheduled for a weekend night to minimize any impact on our productivity.

During this window of downtime, you may not be able to consistently connect to Exchange via Outlook or via OWA (Outlook Web Access) web mail or via other devices. Depending on which servers are being worked on, you may intermittently lose access for all or part of this downtime window. NOTE: Any e-mails sent to you during this time will be captured and queued by our provider's backup server so that you will not lose any incoming e-mails.

Dates are: Jan 14, Feb 11, Mar 11, Apr 15, May 13, Jun 17, Jul 15, Aug 12, Sep 16, Oct 14, Nov 11, Dec 16.

InterConnected Technologies billing system

Dear wonderful clients,

This post is intended to give you an overview of the InterConnected Technologies billing system.  In order to make billing as efficient and effective as possible, we have contracted with a company called Freshbooks for time/expense recording and billing.  This streamlined system helps keep overhead (and hence hourly rates) low by automating much of the billing process.

Each month when a client has an amount due, the system will send an email which contains a link to the current invoice.  There is no complex login or other information to remember.  Just click on the link and view/print the invoice.

The system also automates reminders of late payments, and allows clients to pay invoices via Paypal if they so choose.

Compared to paper invoices sent by mail, or even PDFs sent via email through conventional systems, Freshbooks streamlines both the sending and the processing and payment of invoices.

For Exchange users: Out of Office Assistant

If you are a user of our hosted Exchange service and want to set an out of office message while away, and if you have a problem setting this up in Outlook, this is for you!

You can set/cancel an out of office message using Outlook Web Access, our web-based interface to your Exchange mailbox.

You can access this here:  http://www.interconnected.com/e

Once there, and after you enter your email address and password, go to Options and look for Out of Office Assistant.  Remember that you can set separate responses for both Internal (users within your company) and External (everyone else) senders.

How did Safari (and Mobile Me) get on my Windows computer?

All,

I've posted previously that Safari, whether on Windows or MacOS, scored lowest of any major browser on a recent security test, and that, to me, is a good enough reason to never see it on a Windows machine.  Then, how come it still shows up on so many Windows machines?

The answer:  iTunes.  The iTunes update process helpfully offers to install Safari, and Mobile Me, too:

If you don't uncheck the Safari and Mobile Me boxes, you'll get 'em!
